Report: Putin, Erdogan may discuss Turkish plan on grain deal
ANKARA, Aug 29 (PRIME) – The leaders of Russia and Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Vladimir Putin, will discuss a new formula of the grain deal elaborated by Turkey at a meeting in Sochi, newspaper Hurriyet reported on Tuesday citing sources.
According to the sources, Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan would first listen to the opinion of Russian officials on the deal, then negotiate the terms with the U.N.
"It is said that a new formula to be elaborated by Turkey after the contacts might be discussed at a meeting between President Tayyip Erdogan and Russia's President Vladimir Putin in Sochi," the report read.
Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and the U.N. coordinated the Black Sea Grain Initiative that encompassed exports of Ukrainian grain and food through the Black Sea ports in July 2022.
Moscow left the deal on July 18, 2023. Putin said in August that Russia was ready to return to the grain deal in case of switching the Russian Agricultural Bank to SWIFT.
